Tip 2: Consider when you book your vacation

If you want to find the cheapest overwater bungalows, it’s not just where you’ll be staying that matters, but also when you book your stay. When it comes to when you have two options: Either book well in advance and plan to stay in the off-season or grab a cheap last-minute deal.

If you want to find affordable overwater bungalows but don’t depend on finding the most affordable ones, you can get lucky if you book your stay well in advance.

In our experience, the best deals are booked about half a year in advance. Especially if you stay several nights, it can be cheaper per night. What we recommend is staying for 4 nights at one resort and then 4 more at another. From the list, Berjaya Langkawi Resort and Pangkor Laut Resort are the best choices as they are relatively close to each other, among the most affordable and offer different facets of Malaysia.

For flights, the tip is to book on Aug. 23, the unofficial National Day of Cheap Flights. Around this day, prices for flights drop immensely. It’s also the perfect time to book a vacation in the spring of the following year. We can highly recommend April for all the above mentioned overwater bungalow resorts, because it is already warm enough to jump into the turquoise sea and the prices are still very reasonable. In addition, it is not yet rainy season in countries like Thailand and the Maldives.

Tip 3: Use Rewards Points, Cashbacks, and Loyalty programs

Using one of these options can make your vacation even more affordable. We prefer to book on booking.com, for the following reasons:

  • they price match, meaning you always get the lowest price
  • if you participate in the Genius loyalty program, you will receive at least 10% discount, more discount and features if you book more often
  • you can use a credit card with cashback rewards and combine it with Genius discounts for even more savings
  • use the app: There are often additional discounts if you book directly via the booking.com app

Many of the benefits can also be used on other platforms, especially in Asian countries Agoda is more popular than booking.com. Since Asian countries have the most affordable overwater bungalows, you will often come in contact with the platform in search of the best deal. And you have the same security as with booking.com, because both belong to the same group.

Tip 4: Book all-inclusive

On-site costs can quickly escalate and negate the savings achieved through outstanding planning. When you book all-inclusive, you know in advance exactly how much your trip will cost, and you don’t have to worry about additional costs during your stay. However, you should find out exactly what is included in the all-inclusive package, as this varies from resort to resort.

Tip 5: Follow recommendations
